Team Fralock: Rob Anderson

Raised in Vancouver, British Columbia, Rob Anderson's athletic pursuits began with hockey at age 8. In his late teens he began a three-year tenure in Canada's hockey version of baseball's minor leagues. In 1976, with his pro hockey aspirations stalled, Anderson accepted a four-year scholarship to play college hockey at the University of Denver.

Anderson's passion for mountain biking began several years after his collegiate hockey years in 1980. He ran to stay in shape for hockey season and Anderson remained in the sport following his college graduation. But after back problems curtailed Anderson's running, a friend recommended cycling.

Now 50 years young, Anderson is enjoying some of the best cycling of his illustrious career.  Just this July, he came back from British Columbia with a National Championship jersey, the first one of his life. Rob won the Canadian Mountain Biking Championship at Sun Peaks(M 50+) on the nightmare of a course that he crashed on 10 times the last time he raced it. “It wasn't the relaxing course we raced at the World's last summer. I bested Nels Guloien and Tony Routley, my two biggest rivals from Canada for the last seven years. It was a great race and I avoided hitting the dirt on all the technical stuff and hammered the climbs to make the difference.”

Rob currently resides in Marin County with his wife and their two lovely daughters.
