Aerospace Laser Cutting

Laser Cutting Service

A Synthesis of Power and Precision: An Economic Advantage.  Laser cutting is an advantageous technology choice. Fralock’ s careful evaluation of the features of the most suitable laser cutting service system guarantees optimum results in the following aspects: reduction of total work times; increase in production quality.

UV and CO₂ Laser-processed components have been integral to the aerospace industry for years. As industry requirements to reduce size and eliminate excessive weight continue to increase, the need for laser-processed parts is greater than ever.

The aerospace industry’s need for absolute precision pushes it to discover new and efficient ways to manufacture thousands of parts with virtually no tolerance variation. Elimination of bad pieces, production down time, and employee error are paramount in meeting budget targets and federal and international specifications. Fralock’s laser cutting provides industry leading solutions for these aerospace laser applications.

The technological advantage

Many components must meet harsh or extreme conditions related to wear, corrosion, temperature, and electrical performance. Laser cutting of composite materials play a significant role in current and future aerospace components.

Laser cutting services are, above all, precise, clean, and silent.  The beam can be focalized on an extremely small area (from 0.1 to 1mm in diameter).  The area in proximity to the cut edge has a very low heat alteration.  Moreover, the laser cut service has the capacity of operating on complex profiles and with very small rays of curvature.

Unlike water and traditional cutting systems, light exerts no mechanical pressure on the material.  The laser is a non-contact instrument that guarantees total absence of mechanical pressure on the piece; absence of wear in the instrument; cutting capability independent of hardness of the material; capability of cutting coated or surface treated materials.

Laser cutting services also have a high degree of automation and flexibility which enables: ease of integration with other automated systems; very high trimming capability; capability of adapting immediately to changes in production requirements.

Laser cutting service offers operators a highly accurate method of cutting complex shapes from a wide variety of materials.  Our laser cutting services focus on extremely fine points and have enough energy to cut through thick materials with ease.  Computer aided design (CAD) and computer numerical control (CNC) technology allows complex designs to be made by automated CO2 laser cutting machines quickly and with great accuracy.  Laser cutting machines are integrated into a larger CAD/CAM (computer-aided-design, computer-aided-manufacturing) system that takes a design file and implements it on a work piece.  These machines represent a stepping-stone in the continuing trend away from hands-on manufacturing, putting human workers in a more removed, creative design role.

CO2 laser cutting service is used for a wide range of materials and is characterized by high cutting speeds and extreme cut precision levels.  The list of materials suited to laser cutting is diverse.  In many cases, laser cutting services can produce finished pieces that do not require further processing (polishing, de-burring, finishing etc.).

The main difference between the CO2 and UV Lasers is the wave length of the beam.  Our CO2 operates in the IR portion of the spectrum while the UV Laser operates in the UV portion of the spectrum.  This difference makes one of the two lasers better suited for cutting a particular material.
